Privacy Policy
Effective July 20, 2026
- Everything the camera sees is processed on your device. Camera frames and recognized text are not sent anywhere.
- The app has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. We do not collect device identifiers or location.
- The only time anything leaves your phone is when you choose to report a missing brand — and the app tells you exactly what it will send before you tap Send.
Who Made This? ("the app") shows you who owns consumer brands by reading brand names on product packaging through your camera. This policy explains what the app does — and doesn't — do with your data.
01Camera use
The app uses your camera to recognize printed brand names in real time. Recognition runs entirely on your device. Camera frames are analyzed in memory and discarded; they are not stored in your photo library and not uploaded.
02Reporting a missing brand (optional)
If the app doesn't recognize a brand, you can choose to report it so it can be added to the database. Reporting is always started by you — nothing is ever sent automatically.
When you tap "Send now", the app uploads:
- the photo shown in the viewfinder at that moment;
- the text the app detected in that photo, with its position;
- the app version and platform (iOS or Android);
- the date and time of the report.
That's the complete list. Reports include no name, email, account, device identifier, or location, and we make no attempt to link a report to you.
If you're offline, the report is stored on your device and sent the next time you open the app with a connection.
Where it goes: reports are stored in a private database we operate (hosted by Supabase on servers in the United States). They are not public and are not shared with or sold to anyone.
What it's used for: solely to research the brand and add it (or fix its spelling) in the app's ownership database.
How long it's kept: until the report has been reviewed and the database updated, after which reports are periodically deleted.
A note on photos: you control what's in the frame when you report. Photos are best aimed at the product; please avoid including people.
03Data we collect — App Store summary
In App Store terms, the only data "collected" by the app is the content of missing-brand reports you choose to send (a photo and the detected text). It is used only for app functionality, is not linked to your identity, and is not used for tracking.
04Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
05Deletion requests
If you'd like a report you sent to be deleted, email us with the approximate date and the brand name you reported, and we'll remove it: hello at miscellaneous.digital
06Changes
If the app's data practices ever change, this policy will be updated and the effective date above revised before the change ships.
